Business Development Manager
A Business Development Manager is a position that can be filled by individuals with experience as business planners or economists. It is the job of the Business Development Manager to develop additional business interests within the scope of the resources available to the company.
This could mean finding ways to increase revenue streams from new products and services, while optimizing income from existing lines through innovative marketing and quick reactions to the changing market environment.
The Business Development Manager must be agile and mobile in being a top notch salesman that understands his present product and its customer’s needs so that he may develop new strategies to maintain and extend that business. Concurrently, he may need to put on his “creative cap” in developing new markets, sourcing products and the respective customers to sell to.
While the Business Development Manager is tasked with a broad scope of responsibilities, he or she will have to work within the constraints set up by management. The Business Development Manager is concerned with the analytical preparation of potential growth opportunities for the senior management or board of directors. He will subsequently need their support in the implementation of his ideas.
The qualities needed for a successful Business Development Manager include: Excellent Interpersonal Skills, Sales Orientation, Public Relations, Leadership, Negotiation Skills, and Finance.
