Art Director
You might not be consciously aware of the fact, but chances are high that you're constantly being influenced by the work of art directors. From magazine covers, billboard advertisements on skincare to the packaging of your box of microwavable popcorn and so much more - all of it was likely conceptualised by art directors.
Art directors are the people responsible for designing print advertisements, out-of-home media material, and sometimes even artwork for moving visuals. They typically work in advertising agencies and are tasked with producing artistic concepts and artwork for their clients, ensuring that the clients’ marketing material is visually engaging and communicates a clear and evocative message to the intended audience.
Essentially, art directors translate marketing strategies into visuals that resonate with the target audience in a manner that embodies the branding of the product or company effectively, working alongside other members of the creative team, particularly copywriters.
As for education, most art directors hold a degree in art or a related field such as mass communication. However, relevant work experience and a strong portfolio is just as important as a university degree.
Consider becoming an art director if there’s art in your heart and you’re willing to put in long hours in an uncompromising environment that demands perfection and creative genius. You may have to work your way up from positions such as graphic designer or illustrator, but you’ll definitely be more well-rounded if you have experience of that nature to draw from.
