Architect
Architects work in the construction industry and are involved with designing new buildings, extensions or alterations to existing buildings, or advising on the restoration and conservation of old properties.
The career of an Architect usually starts off researching zoning, building codes, legal filings, draft plans, and build models at the side of a more experienced architect. As an Architect, you will work closely with your client to make sure that the designs match their needs, yet remain functional, safe and economical.
An Architect gets involved from the earliest stages of a project. This starts with developing ideas with the client, setting budgets, understanding the needs of the building and its occupants, and also measuring its impact to the environment. They will assist in site selection and work closely site with contractors, maintaining standards while making sure that the building is sustainable, functional, and safe.
A successful Architect is able to sell his idea or vision to the client – the better you are at communicating your vision will invariably contribute to your success as an Architect. Even after that, there will be constant revision and changes to your original plans. Thus, a successful architect needs talent, practical, interpersonal, and organizational skills, and most of all, patience.
