Biochemistry, BSc (Hons), with industry placement

At the University of Sussex, 94% of our Biological Sciences research is rated world-leading or internationally excellent (REF 2021). Our Biochemistry course delves into the mechanisms of life, taught by expert biochemists and chemists. You will investigate molecular-scale processes in cells and organisms, explore disease origins like cancer, and learn how biochemistry drives therapeutic innovations. From the first year, hands-on lab work develops practical skills in data analysis and teamwork, while flexible modules in areas such as medicinal chemistry and neuroscience allow you to tailor your studies to your career goals. Supported by a vibrant community in the School of Life Sciences, you will gain expertise in purifying biomolecules, genomics, and research projects.Upon graduation, you will possess skills for careers in pharmaceuticals, biotechnology, or forensics. An optional year in industry after your second year provides real-world experience, enhancing employability. We also offer versions without placement or as a four-year MSci.
