Materials Science and Engineering, BEng (Hons), with industry placement

In our undergraduate Materials Science and Engineering BEng programme at Sheffield, students explore the fundamental principles of materials science and their applications across engineering fields. The course begins with a focus on core theory and hands-on practical training in the first two years, including group projects that tackle real-world problems and develop essential skills like communication, teamwork, and project management. Students can choose to maintain a general path or specialise in areas such as metallurgy, composites, or biomaterials, while gaining knowledge in materials properties, sustainability, and industrial techniques like computational modelling.A key feature is the optional industrial placement year, allowing students to apply their learning in professional settings with partners like Siemens Gamesa and Rolls-Royce. This experience, combined with an independent research project, equips graduates to address 21st-century challenges.
