This four-year course, offered in partnership with the School of East Asian Studies, integrates intensive Japanese language training from beginner level with modules on Japan and East Asia. It combines this with linguistics studies, equipping students with essential analytical tools to explore how languages function, are processed in the mind, and influence society. Students will develop skills to critically examine Japanese language, culture, politics, and history, including mastering phonetic scripts (Kana), 2,000 Sino-Japanese characters (Kanji), and spending a year at a Japanese university.
