About the course

This BEng in aerospace engineering offers the same high standards of academic excellence and practical training as our core degrees, while providing an opportunity to learn to fly in the second year. It combines hands-on flying and aircraft-building experience with a comprehensive study of aerospace principles, including modules on propulsion, instrumentation, computation, and aerodynamics design. Students can tailor the program to focus on avionic systems or aeromechanics, alongside ground training, five hours of flight instruction, and potential involvement with the Yorkshire Universities Air Squadron. The curriculum emphasizes project management, interdisciplinary communication, and a final-year research project under leading academics, serving as an ideal pathway to obtaining a UK or European private pilot's licence.Ranked in the top five for aeronautical and manufacturing engineering by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide 2024, and as the leading Russell Group university in the National Student Survey 2023, this course provides access to state-of-the-art facilities for jet engine technologies and real industry opportunities. Students can engage in study abroad, extracurricular competitions, and the Global Engineering Challenge to solve problems in developing countries, enhancing professional skills and career prospects.
