The MA in Classics centers on the study of ancient Greek and Roman languages and literatures. Ancient Greek first articulated many foundational concepts of Western society, while Latin was the language of the enduring Roman Empire and remained dominant in European scholarship, records, and literature for over 1,000 years. This programme integrates detailed philological analysis with examinations of Greek and Latin civilizations across contexts such as political, religious, and philosophical domains. Participants will receive advanced training in both languages, read a wide range of classical texts in their original form, and explore works from archaic Greece to the Middle Ages.
