As the longest standing provider of speech pathology education in Victoria, we understand no two days of the profession are alike. This four-year course considers every aspect of speech pathology, teaching you to diagnose and treat issues such as speech and language problems, stuttering, voice and swallowing difficulties. The Bachelor of Applied Science and Master of Speech Pathology may enable you to work all over the world in a variety of health settings.In first year you'll be introduced to the fundamentals of human biosciences, the factors influencing health, and the requirements of working as a health professional. First year also includes observational opportunities and mentoring by speech pathologists.Second year allows you to focus on developing your knowledge of typical communication development, linguistics, general psychology and anatomy. Your third and fourth years include learning how to diagnose and treat speech pathology cases using real-life examples and a range of professional placement experiences.Our students complete placements at a range of hospital and community agencies, schools and rehabilitation centres, so you'll gain the skills to work with all kinds of people, from children with developmental delay to adults with acquired disorders.Fourth year is also your chance to participate in seminars on advanced issues in speech pathology. These will sharpen your presentation skills and help you discover your areas of special interest. During your clinical placement, you could be involved in the development of resources and projects aimed at helping the speech pathology community.The course structure lets you complete the required subjects for this 4.5 year degree in only four years.
The qualification awarded on graduation is recognised in the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) as Level 9.
