Mechanical Engineering More about Mechanical Engineering

Ever wonder how things work? Perhaps you have a penchant for taking things apart and putting them together again? You can put this natural curiosity to productive use by being a Mechanical Engineer.

Mechanical engineering is a diverse and versatile discipline. The study of Mechanical engineering involves mastering and applying the principles of physics and material science for analysis, design, manufacturing, and maintenance of mechanical systems.

A Mechanical engineer is involved with every product or system that moves, uses, or produces energy. Virtually every aspect of life touches on certain disciplines of Mechanical engineering – these include mobile phones, cars, engines, aircrafts and power plants. Mechanical engineering is also an ancient study stemming back to Ancient Greece as far back as 287-212 BC with the works of Archimedes – whose works influenced mechanics in the Western tradition.

A student of Mechanical engineering would be required to build on the basics of science and mathematics gained in school to learn about materials, solid and fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, heat transfer, control, instrumentation, product design and manufacturing processes.

In addition to studying core engineering topics, it is common to have courses on communication, business and other social sciences to give graduates a well-rounded perspective. These additional subjects will give graduates the skills, ability and flexibility to work and succeed in varying environments.
